Nicole coia “ THE RIGHT DIRECTION”

Barbering is an art that transcends to anyone or anywhere in the case of Australia’s own Nicole Coia it has been the one calling in her life that has been dying to be answered. Nicole’s talent has reached out to the masses and has been on display in many of publications that we are honored to be telling her story to rest of you so let us sit back and enjoy the story of this talented barber Nicole Coia.

At a very young age I always took my younger brother to the barbershop for his haircut it was never an issue for me because we had to get up very early and wait for his turn so getting up early in the morning was something I really loved doing it was always a new lease on life. I always styled his hair before school it was something I truly enjoyed it wasn’t until I saw a pair of clippers within my father’s case when I asked him what they were for? In his reply he woke me up and opened my eyes to the world of barbering with just a few words… “ I cut the hair of the homeless” within that very moment I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life at the age of 21 years old.

Quickly opening the phonebook and calling just about every barbershop in there I finally got an interview in fact I had two and with the second one giving me a shot to learn. I was so enthusiastic and eager to learn it all. I was trained with all of the basics and continued to learn but without the professional groundwork being laid down first I would not be the barber that I am today.

“The creative side of barbering is truly exciting.”

At the age of 23 I lost my father he was the man who believed I could be the barber I knew I could be so with his passing I decided I needed to travel to another part of the country called Cyprus where I started my 1st small business cutting hair in my room it was one of those things we all barbers do. Within my time in Cyprus I could only think about getting back home and starting my real business the business of a barbershop they say with a dream and plan things can be accomplished so my 1st barbershop was born I was successful I was getting busier and busier every day I had no business experience all I had was the drive and ambition to make my father proud.

With no control of my own having many people gracing our barbershop I absolutely loved the people of Glasgow homeboys (barbershop) it just wasn’t a barbershop it was the place to be. Being at the shop cutting head after head it brought me closer to achieving my dreams it bought me the car of my dreams and helped me hold on to very promise I made my father before his passing. To take care of my mum and I will forever do that for them both.

I had a choice to make, with all my dreams of success coming true I had a bigger vision for me so in search of a new path and a change in me I had to take a break so I booked a flight to Sydney , Australia where I have resided and worked with the best in the business where I can only see a bright future for me. Looking back on my life I would change a lot because how else can we make a better version of ourselves for the future. Growing up in Drumchapel Glasgow we never had much no guidance or experience yet life had it’s own way of pushing and directing me in the right direction.
